Imphal, August 21 2022: The Lions Club of Imphal Global organized a one-day tree plantation programme titled 'Adopt a Tree' today at Nongpok Chingkhei Ching in association with Nongpok Chingkhei Apanba Development Committee.

According to a statement, the tree plantation programme was conducted on the theme "Preserve your heritage, plant more trees" with an objective to protect the environment and to preserve sacred ancestral sites in Manipur.

On the occasion, the Chartered President of the Club said that every three seconds, forests equal to one complete football field are cut down in the world.

This act is causing massive damage to the environment resulting in increased global warming.

In such a situation, it is the responsibility of every citizen to plant trees and take care of them, he advised.

Khagokpam Khamba, vice-president, said the program was organised in order to bring awareness about the degrading environment and to ensure, that people realize their responsibilities and plant trees.
