Imphal, May 23 2022: A one-day seminar in connection with observance of International Day for Biodiversity was held at United College, Lambung, Chandel, on Monday.

During the seminar, college's associate professor (botany Dept) Dr S Raghumani Singh spoke on the topic of "Building a shared future for all life".

He highlighted some of the reasons why Manipur is famed for its Dzuko and Shirui lilies, as well as why the region is a global ecological hotspot.

Dr S Raghumani also cautioned that by destroying habitat, humans are paving the road for species' extinction and also expressed fear that certain medicinal plants will be extinct from Manipur's soil as a result of this loss of species.

Plants, animals, and other living organisms, he said, are important components for our ecosystems to operate effectively.

United College principal Dr Bd Thumdal presided over the seminar, which was attended by students, teaching and non-teaching staff, informed a release of the College.
