Thoubal, May 16 2022: BJP's vision to plant five lakh saplings across the state under the "Save Environment, Save Youth, Save Future Generation" theme of mass tree plantation programme commenced from Monday at Tangjeng hills of Thoubal district.

Prior to launch of the campaign, BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi offered prayers to the Tangjeng deities (Ibudhou and Ibendou) and planted a sapling at the shrine's premises.

BJP state vice president L Deben, general secretaries P Fremananda and K Inaocha Devi, Thoubal district president Y Kumarjit, party members, social worker Y Nabachandra and forest department officials also attended the event.

Speaking to the media, Sharda Devi explained that the BJP's campaign is aimed at contributing in combating global warming and saving the environment.

Informing that 200 saplings each will be planted by members of party's 800-900 mandals in their respective areas, she also vowed party's full support to the 'war on drugs' campaign of the government to save the future generations from drug addiction.

Sharda also expressed strong resentment over a recent incident of some locals raising objection against a tree plantation progranjme around Thangjing hill range and reminded all concerned that the campaign had nothing to do with religion or community.
