Imphal, May 05 2022: Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chandel on Thursday organised a training programme under Jal Shakti Abhiyan 2022 at Lambung village in Chandel district.

In a release, KVK Chandel head Dr A Ameeta Devi said KVK Chandel SMS (SWCE) Dr Kangjam Sonamani Singh urged the farmer participants to adopt a water-smart lifestyle wherein there should be an effort to harvest and conserve water as much as possible.

He stressed that water saving should be made a life-long habit and also emphasised on renovation and rejuvenation of old water bodies.

The programme was attended by 37 farmers, it informed.

On the other-hand, KVK Chandel organised an input distribution programme under the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) at Lambung village with Anal Lelruwl Tangpi president Sng Phamhring Anal attending as the chief guest.

Dr Sonamani, who also attended the programme, urged the farmers to adopt a farming approach that includes sustainably using existing natural resources through crop and livestock production systems, development and application of improved production and risk management technologies to achieve long-term higher farm productivity and incomes.

He also advised the farmers to adopt climate resilient technologies so as to improve farm profitability as well as better water and nutrient management for efficient resource utilisation apart from motivating the farmers to adopt appropriate mitigation technologies such as the cultivation of tolerant breeds to overcome the climate stress.

As a part of the programme, Agronomy SMS Dr Khumlo Levish Chongloi spoke about site specific technology packages on farmers' fields for adapting to present climate risks.

She deliberated on different aspects of conservation agricultural practices to build organic carbon and to build congenial environment for plant growth and manure management.

During the programme, attended by about 37 farmers, input seeds of rice (RC Maniphou-6, RC Maniphou-13), black-gram, maize, groundnut, soyabean and foxtail millet were distributed while Dr Ameeta spoke on Urgent need for implementation and adoption of climate resilient agricultural practices in the district.
