Kakching Range conducts drive against bird poaching

Kakching, January 11 2022: Beat Officers under the jurisdiction of Kakching Range conducted drive against bird poachers in and around lakes in Kakching district today.

The drive was conducted in and around Khoidumpat, Lamjao Maningpat and Pumlenpat to seize bird nets and apprehend bird poachers.

The officials also gave awareness to the people living around the lake about the importance of saving birds.

Speaking to media on the sideline of the drive, N Munal Meetei, asst conservator of forests said Kakching district has the most number of wetlands amongst the districts of the State.

He added that under the initiatives taken by the Forests Department and with the support of the locals, the instances of bird paoching in lakes in Kakching district have been almost down to zero.


But with the coming of the election, there have been some reports that some people were engaged in bird paoching.

The drive has been conducted to check such incidents, he added.

N Munal Meetei further informed the media that the number of brids coming to lakes in Kakching district have reduced greatly this year, which is very alarming.

He appealed the people living in and around lakes in Kakching district that without there support, saving birds and animals will not be possible.

He appealed all the people to come together and protect such birds and animals.
