Imphal, November 10 2021: The Green Foundation, Imphal has found a way to prevent the outbreaks of planthopper using an organic insecticide.
The foundation reportedly found the method through its programme "Hopper Management Programme on Rice" which was experimented in select paddy fields across the State.
Inspecting a few fields at Kumbi under Bishnupur district on Tuesday, CEO of The Green Foundation, Urikhinbam Himmat stated that planthopper is one such insect which can cause serious rice diseases and damage the crop extensively.

Saying that the foundation urged the farmers from Kumbi who reported planthoppers infestation to use the organic insecticide they produced, Himmat added that the experiment was successful in controlling the outbreak.
The same method was also successful earlier when implemented at Sabungkhok in Imphal East earlier, he added.
He said that insecticide was made using neem extract, pseudo fluorescens, oram and agroviva.
One farmer from Kumbi Laishang Leikai Ward no 7 ,Khangembam Gojendro said that planthoopers started attacking his paddy field at Saitonmang in September last.
The infestation didn't stop even when chemicals were sprayed to control the attack, he informed and maintained that his field was saved only after using the insecticide recommended by the scientist of The Green Foundation.
