Imphal, November 04 2021: Two hundred and fifty four societies of fishers in the State will be participating in the Fish Mela which is scheduled to be held on November 6 in connection with the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival.

The above statement was made by Salam Joy, convenor of JAC of Fisheries Cooperative Society while speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.

He continued that due to non disbursement of the fund sanctioned by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for the fishers beneficiaries of Manipur which amounts to Rs 129 crore, the JAC of Fisheries Cooperative Society Kakching, Bishnupur, Imphal East and Imphal West resolved to protest by not participating in the said Fish Mela.

However the said protest will be relaxed till November 6 since the Minister concerned and the State Government have assured that the fund will be released soon hence the JAC decided to participate in the Fish Mela, he added.

Also he warned that the JAC will continue its protest from November 7 if the Government still fails to fulfil its promise.
