Earlier, the people of Khamsom village and Khabung Karong village had alleged that plastic rice was found in the monthly quota of rice distributed under NFSA.

In this regard, the rice samples were reportedly collected and handed over to L Johny, Designated Officer, Food Safety Administration, Senapati for testing in FSSAI accredited lab.

According to FSSAI clarification, it is the natural phenomenon of rice to burn since it is a complex carbohydrate and as rice is 80% starch.

It has cohesive and adhesive properties and when the rice is cooked and transformed into a ball, the air gets entrapped and becomes bouncy like a ball that shows the rice to contain plastic.
