Governor visits Keibul Lamjao

Imphal, October 16 2021: Governor of Manipur La Ganesan today visited Gopinath Mandir at Ningthoukhong and Keibul Lamjao National Park.

He also interacted with District Level Officers, families of freedom fighters and representatives of Civil So-ciety Organisations (CSOs) at Keibul Lamjao National Park, Bishnupur district.

Speaking at the interaction programme organised by district administration Bishnupur, Governor La Ganesan said he has been planning to visit all the districts of the State to learn more about the diverse cultures and traditions of the State since he took charge as the Governor of Manipur.

Regarding health and other concerns arising out of the pandemic, the Governor highlighted initiatives and measures of the Modi led Government.

Saying that vaccination against Covid is the most effective way to defeat the pandemic, he also lauded the efforts of district health officials for achieving 75 percent first dose vaccination and 45 percent of both the doses in the district.

"Prevention is better than cure" he quoted and appealed to all not to be hesitant in receiving their vaccine shots timely to help make Manipur a Covid free State.

Acknowledging Manipur's rich art and culture and excellence in sports, the Governor also said he was impressed with the scenic beauty of Keibul Lamjao National Park which shelters the world famous brow-antlered deer-Sangai.

He also appealed to all to contribute towards preserving the National park.

Quoting the maxim "cleanliness is next to Godliness", the Governor stressed on the importance of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene.

He said that tourism can greatly boost the economic status of the people and called upon people of Keibul Lamjao to give priority to cleanliness which is one of the important attributes to attract tourists.

Above this, cleanliness will help keep everyone happy and healthy in all respects- physically, mentally, socially and intellectually by reducing the chances of diseases, said the Governor who also exuded confidence that the District Level Officers will enable the whole district to become clean and green.

During the programme, some District Level Officers also highlighted shortages of staff and other issues which have been hampering the smooth functioning of the office to the Governor.

As a part of the programme, the Governor presented gifts to family members of freedom fighters and representatives of local Civil Society Organisations and heard their inputs for developing the area and grievances.

Hanjabam Bobby Sharma, Additional DC, Bishnupur also gave a powerpoint presentation of various activities and achievements of different departments in the district.
