Imphal, October 04 2021: A mass plantation project of bamboo called Bamboo Park was inaugurated on Monday at Mapao Christian village in Pangei Yangdong under Kangpokpi district by Union minister of state for external affairs and education Dr RK Ranjan Singh.
The inaugural function was organised by Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS), Manipur with support of North East Cane and Bamboo Development Council (NECBDC) Burnihat, Guwahati (Assam) under North Eastern Council of the ministry of DoNER.
A release by AIMS director Dr Atom Sunil said that the project aims to grow about 4,000 bamboos of different varieties.
The establishment of a Bamboo Park in the state is Dr RK Ranjan's long dream and is dedicated to his daughter (late) Diana Rajkumari on her birthday, said the release.
The gathering also observed a minute's silence in honour of the departed soul.
As the functional president, CSIR-NEIST senior principal scientist Dr H Birkumar noted that though bamboo is the most potential bio-resource, people of Manipur do not understand these potentials.
"We cannot develop without knowing our resources," he said.
The event was also attended by former Health Services additional director Dr S Manikanta Singh, head of MU Political Science department Prof Rajen Singh Laishram, Central Agricultural University professor RK Dilip, scientist-D of Institute of Bio-resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal Dr Chingakham Brajakishor and Dr Wahengbam Ibomcha Singh, JN-MDA guru Meihoubam Seityaban Singh, social activist RK fomba and AIMS president Mayanglambam Khelendro Singh.
