Imphal, October 02 2021: The State Government today commemorated the 152nd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall.
Governor La Ganesan led Ministers, MLAs, civil and Military officials in paying floral tribute to the bust of Mahatma Gandhi ahead of the main commemoration programme held on the theme "National Cleanliness Day" .
Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said that cleanliness comes in everyone's mind when we talk about Mahatma Gandhi.
"The cleanliness which Mahatma Gandhi had envisaged is, however, not limited to our surroundings but also means the cleanliness and truthfulness within our heart and soul," he said.
He further emphasized on the importance of cooperating with the Government since the Covid pandemic is not over and appealed to assist Health officials in achieving 100 percent vaccination against Covid in the State.
State pays tribute to 'Father of the Nation'
The Governor also recalled and paid tribute to late Indian leader and former Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri whose birth anniversary also falls today.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) also observed the 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and 117 birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri at Congress Bhavan here today.
Offering floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and to the photo of Lal Bahadur Shastri were the highlights of the commemoration programme.
Speaking at the occasion, CLP leader Okram Ibobi fondly remembered Mahatma Gandhi and his philosophy of non-violence which freed India from British rule.
In honour of Mahatma Gandhi, the day has been declared as the International Day of Non-Violence by the United Nations, he noted.
Congress Working Committee member, Gaikhangam; AICC's Manipur Observer, Jairam Ramesh; MPCC president M Loken, party MLAs and other officials also attended the event.
