Imphal, September 26 2021: Swachhata hi seva campaign and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav have failed considerably in Imphal East district as many still continues to dump their waste at Porompat DC road even in broad day light.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Thokchom Surchandra, president of United Porompat Baruni Road Development Organisation (UPBRO) said the campaigns were launched by District Administration Imphal East , District Water and Sanitation Committee Imphal East District and Imphal East District Police to be observed till October 2 to mark 75 years of India's Independence.
He added that recently DC Imphal East had also appealed the public not to dump their waste on the roadsides and warned that those found dumping waste at the said sites will be fined and punished under IPC 1860 section 278 .

UPBRO had also appealed the masses not to dump their waste on this stretch of the road, he added.
Despite all the initiative taken up by the District Administration and the local clubs, people continues to dump their waste during late hours and recently they have started doing the same during day time too which is very unfortunate, Th Surchandra said.
Foul smells from the waste are making commuting this stretch very hard, he added.
One of the Rickshaw puller who came to dump waste at the Porompat DC road said, he is paid Rs 50 to Rs 100 per trip to dispose off their waste by hotels, families or shops.
Th Surchandra appealed the Government to look after the issue and take up necessary actions to prevent people from dumping their waste at the said stretch of road which is one of the most important road used by students, office goers and others alike.
He suggested opening a Police outpost to keep a check on people from dumping their waste.
