Turmeric flakes flagged off

Imphal, September 16 2021: At least 10 metric ton of dried organic turmeric (flakes) grown under the initiative of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) by Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) at Tamenglong and Ukhrul districts has been flagged off for PDS Organic Spices at Kerala as a first consignment, today.

The consignment was flagged off from Sanjenthong in front of MOMA office by MOMA Project Director K Devdutta Sharma and Grassroot Syndicate Producer Company Limited and Diocesean Social Service Society Director Rev Father Biju Lucose.

The turmeric was cultivated by Reangluang Organic Farmers Producer Company Limited located at Tamenglong and Noney districts and Oriental Organic Farmer Producer Company Limited based in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

These two FPCs are being promoted by MOMA under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) in cultivating high quality turmeric.

Speaking to the media, Rev Father Biju Lucose said that the company is engaging about 5,000 farmers for cultivating organic food items such as turmeric and gingers at different locations under MOMA.

He also said that the organic turmeric from Manipur is in demand due to its rich nutritional content and thanked Chief Minister N Biren Singh and MOMA for promoting organic farming.

Reportedly, Grassroot Syndicate Producer Company Limited has closed a deal of 20 MT of dried turmeric flakes with PDS Organic Spices, Kerala.

The total deal is valued at 24.2 lakh.

Grassroot Syndicate Producer Company Limited is an organisation supported by MOMA in developing processing infrastructure.

The company has been helping the FPCs in processing fresh organic produce and marketing the products.
