Kakching, September 08 2021: Farmers of Nongdam village have started planting black gram and corn in their agricultural lands, where cultivation of paddy crop has failed due to lack of adequate rainfall, so as to salvage themselves from the loss.

The initiative was taken up by Progressive Farmers' Club Nongdam in association with KVK Imphal East and CAU directorate of extension education to provide an alternative means to the farmers, who are facing crop failure.

KVK Imphal East is providing the seeds along with lime powder and other requirements including a power tiller (Kubota) to the farmers while Nongren Chingnungkok GP pradhan Mayanglambam Bilashini, Rajen from Kakwa, who owns a farm in the village, and Nongdam resident Ng Bairon sponsored tractors for tilling the fields for the entire day.

At the same time, ward member N Sangainganbi, social worker A Deven, Progressive Farmers' Club Nongdam advisor Anand Takhellambam and club members donated diesel.

Students of Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, Pusa Bihar and Himgiri Zee University Dehradun, and RAWE students Uttaranchal University Dehradun also participated in the seed sowing activities as their field practice.

The students were led by KVK Imphal East subject matter specialist Nandini Chongtham Dr H Ramananda (SMS) .
