Kakching, September 05 2021: Chief Minister's Green Manipur Mission was launched in respect of Kakching district at Lamjao Makha Leikai playground by planting tree saplings and organising an awareness programme on Saturday.
The awareness programme was organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav by Mayeng Lamjao gram panchayat and forest department at Lamjao Makha community hall with Kakching range forest officer Naorem Munal, Mayeng Lamjao GP Pradhan Urikkhinbam Narjeet Luwang and Green Manipur Mission brand ambassador Valentina Elangbam attending as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Munal recounted that CM Biren officially launched the mission on June 11, 2019 at Sangaithel with the objective of bringing about a green Manipur by increasing forest cover and to maintain the natural eco-system of the state.
Under the Act East policy, the government has plans to make all human settlements in five km areas on both sides of NH 102 as green villages and to improve their socio-economic conditions.
Villages, which can reserve a minimum of land area of 5 hectares, can avail benefits under the mission for plantation of tree saplings and cash crops, he said and added that other line departments will also help in achieving the target.
Green Manipur Mission brand ambassador Valentina Elangbam appealed to all concerned not to cut trees or to plant five saplings if one has to cut down one.
She also appealed to all to contribute their mite in ensuring the full growth of the saplings planted during the programme.
Pradhan Narjeet also appealed to the local people to protect the tree saplings from cattle and ensure proper growth.
