Bodies decry earth quarrying at Pechimoirang

Kakching, August 25 2021: Local clubs and meira paibi groups of Kekru Khul have asked those involved in random cutting of trees and earth quarrying at Pechimoirang located at Gwarok Lai Khupham in Yairipok Kekru village to clarify at the earliest.

Kekru Ideal Progressive Committee (KIPC), Kekru Yairi Club, Kekru Development Youth Club, Kekru Apunba Meira Paibi Mathak and Kekru Makha Apunba Meira Paibi convened a joint meeting in this regard at Kekru Laimang community hall on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, KIPC secretary Laishram Somorendro reminded that Pechimoirang is a sacred site protected by the elders for a long time by conserving its environment.

However, some people were found to have excavated soil from the compound of the sacred place using heavy machinery (JBC excavator).

Those involved in the environmentally destructive act should clarify without delay, he said and cautioned that appropriate action would be initiated if the culprits do not clarify.

He also informed that the meeting resolved that no one irrespective of private or any other authorities shall quarry or excavate soil from the said sacred place.
