Awareness programme on 'Parthenium weed and its management' conducted

Imphal, August 19 2021: An virtual awareness programme on the topic, 'Parthenium weed (Congress Grass) and its management' was conducted on Google Meet platform today.

Twenty six farmers attended the awareness programme which was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Imphal East under the supervision of Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal.

Subject matter specialist in Agronomy, Nandini Chongtham spoke as the resource person in today's programme.

She stressed on the harmful effects of Parthenium weed which is found to be growing in many parts of the State and said that it causes Asthma, cough, allergy etc.

If the said weed is consumed by the stray animals, it may lead to mouth diseases and will reduce the lactation level, she added.

In view of the above harmful effects, she appealed to all to destroy the weed extensively if found growing in the wild.

Program co-ordinator of Krishi Vigyan Kendra Imphal East, Soram Monibala stated that similar awareness programmes will be conducted in the coming days in the interest of the farmers.
