Thoubal, April 19 2021: An awareness programme on conservation of forest was held at the community hall at Thoubal Khunou in Thoubal district on April 16.The programme was jointly organised by Range Office Thoubal, Okeshwar Honeshwar Trust (OKHO) Langmeidong, Legal Aid Clinic, Hiyanglam and Thoubal Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup under the aegis of Thoubal Forest Division.
Addressing the gathering, Range Officer Kakching, Naorem Munal Meitei spoke in detail about the relation between forest and human society and harmful effects of burning forest for agricultural activities.
He further stressed on the need for conserving forest by the present generation for future and to maintain the ecological balance.
Emphasising that forest is one of the most useful natural resource he urged all to protect and conserve forest for the future generation and appealed to all to plant 6 saplings each on the occasion of Ban Mahotsav to be held in July with a pledge to make the world a healthier place to live in.
Talking about the serious consequences of burning forest, he stated that it is a punishable offence.
Further he called for collective efforts to ban the usage of plastic as it poses a major threat to the natural environment and also expressed the desire of developing Thoubal Khunou as a tourist spot by preserving its natural beauty.
As a part of the programme, environmentalist S Rajesh spoke on the topic 'Global warming, its effect and measures to control it' and National Awardee Ngouba Thouna spoke on 'Eco System' and senior scientific officer M Ramo spoke on the relation between human and forest.
Later, a discussion programme was held with DFO Thoubal Th Lokendro as the moderator.
