'Save Heirok River, Neat and Clean Campaign' kicks off

Thoubal, April 02 2021: Heirok Police Station, Officer-incharge, Inspector N Premjit Singh flagged off the 'Save Heirok River, Neat and Clean Campaign' at Heirok Part II, Chingol in Thoubal district, today.
The cleanliness campaign participated by about 40 TPOSE Heirok volunteers including youth was organised by Tree Planters Organisation for Save Environment Heirok (TPOSE) on the theme "To make a green revolution and clean all pollute as we can".
The cleanliness campaign was conducted along the bank of Heirok river from Heirok Part II, Chingol till Heirok Part II Maning Leikai.
Speaking on the occasion, TPOSE Heirok, secretary, N Bijen Meitei stated that the condition of Heirok river is very deplorable due to pollution and is even listed among the 6 most polluted rivers of the State as published by the National Green Tribunal.
The cleanliness campaign was organised by TPOSE Heirok in a bid to save Heirok river and make the water potable again for the people, he added.
The secretary expressed his appreciation to the villagers of Heirok and Heirok PS for their support and added that the organisation would organise more campaigns in the future.
N Premj it Singh also highlighted the importance of keeping the Heirok river clean and lauded the members of TPOSE for their timely initiative to clean the river.
