Sensitization / cleanliness drive carried out along Sengmai river

Kakching, December 10 2020: District administration Kakching in collaboration with Kakching Municipal Council (KMC), JNGVO Kakching, AKSU Kakching and KKCL jointly carried out a sensitisation cum cleanliness drive along Sengmai river, today.

During the drive which was flagged off by Kakching Municipal Council Chairperson, Naorem Sanjit Kumar, district administration Kakching ADM, M Kapaljit and Kakching police Addl SP, A Romendro from Kakching Kerajing, plastics dumped at the river and its banks were picked up utilising a boat.

Speaking to media persons, M Kapaljit said that many pig carcasses were found dumped along the river a few days back.

Saying that such dumping of animals is against the law, the ADM added that an order has been issued by the district administration to conserve Sengmai river.

Legal actions will be initiated against those who dump dead animals, release water from sewerage pipes, carry out illegal methods of fishing etc, at the river, he added.

Naorem Sanjit Kumar appealed to all to refrain from carrying out activities that might pollute Sengmai river which is the source of livelihood for thousands of people.

The drive culminated at Keirak Dam.
