Thoubal, October 03 2024: Thoubal Forest Division on Thursday launched a campaign with use of public address system to raise awareness about protecting migratory birds which flock to various water bodies of the district during the winter months.
The campaign launched in connection With Wildlife Week Celebration 2024, was kicked-off from Range Forest Office, Thoubal by range officer Dineschandra Salam and Mayai Keithel forest beat officer L Samananda under the aegis of Thoubal DFO Dr Leishangthem Jeeceelee.
The campaign covered in residential pockets near the foothills and water bodies with the residents and public urged to protect wild birds instead of hunting along with cautioning that poaching or killing migratory birds is punishable offence with three years in jail or fine of Rs 25,000, or both under Wildlife Protection Act 1972 .
