Thoubal, March 10 2024: Eco Network Heirok conducted the 15th installment of its ongoing cleanliness drive along the banks of Wangjing-Heirok River in the vicinity of Heirok Power Sub-Station in collaboration with Ningol Club today.
According to a press release issued by Shinthangamba Laishram, president, Eco Network Heirok, the drive is part of its ongoing Heirok-Wangjing River Rejuvenation Campaign.
Decrying the lack of effort and assistance by the concerned department in rejuvenating the Wangjing-Heirok River, Eco Network Heirok stated that the people cannot successfully clean up the river without any departmental assistance.
Stating that Government officials speak of lofty environmental goals in their speeches during various functions, the press release added that on the ground no help is given to people who are dedicated towards saving the environment and cleaning up the rivers/river banks.
Eco Network Heirok also pointed out the lack of adequate waste management policy, half-hearted implementation of Manipur Plastic Policy, lack of budget for waste management as well as awareness and sensitization programmes in the State.
Despite such hurdles.
Eco Network Heirok has reaffirmed its goal to transform Wangjing-Heirok River as the cleanest river in Manipur and to turn Heirok into a model village.
