Speaking at the programme, Oil Palm Mission Cell Manipur consultant MS Khaidem stated that the oil palm is a very profitable crop and the training has been organised to educate farmers on the advantages of oil palm farming and how to farm it to get high yield.

He also mentioned that Jiribam is a very suitable place for oil palm plantation, hence, the department is in the process of planting oil palms at different parts of the district from this year.

Answering to a query regarding environmental impact of oil palm plantations, Khaidem clarified that as per report of the Indian Institute of Oil Palm Research, there have been no complaints from the various oil palm plantations already taken up in others parts of the country.

He also said that farmers have been advised to grow other local crops in between the 30 feet gap of two oil palm saplings until they reach maturity.
