Ukhrul, August 02 2023: A massive cleanliness drive was held today at Ukhrul town organised by the Small Town Committee (STC) under the Autonomous District Council (ADC) Ukhrul in collaboration with the District Administration and Ukhrul Police.

The volunteers cleared the garbage piled up on either side of the footpaths of the town during the cleanliness drive which began from early morning.

Machineries and vehicles including tipper trucks and JCBs were used to clean and transport the waste materials which were piled up in the open spaces.

Waste materials dumped and littered at places such as Gandhi Chowk, Ava Market, Hamleikhong near the Mini Secretariat gate were also cleared during the drive.

Following the cleanliness drive, littering and haphazard dumping of garbage has strictly been prohibited with immediate effect.

Speaking in this connection, CEO, ADC Ukhrul David Kashungnao stated all the waste deposited will be collected during the drive and will be disposed off at proper dumping sites.

Since May, the waste collection activities stopped as ADC Ukhrul could not find a proper dumping site, however an individual from Hunphun/Ukhrul village has been generous enough to allow to utilise his land as a temporary dumping site.

The CEO further warned that violators who dump garbage haphazardly will be penalised with a fine of Rs 5000 and further urged every household to obtain a waste collection card at the cost Rs 200 per month.

Meanwhile, the people of Ukhrul expressed their gratitude to the department concerned for clearance of waste materials on the road sides of Ukhrul town.

A large number of people including Deputy Commissioner, Ukhrul Zuringla Kengoo; SP Ukhrul Ningsem Vashum, CEO David Kashungnao and Ukhrul police personnel and staff of UADC took part in today's cleanliness drive.
