State level conference begins

Imphal, April 26 2023: A 2-Days State Level Conference on "Holistic approach for combating impact of climate change in Agriculture & Allied Sectors" began today at the Conference Hall of Central Agricultural University (CAU), Iroisemba, Imphal.

The conference was organised by DST Climate Change Project (HICAB Programme) under College of Agriculture (COA), CAU, Imphal.

It was attended by Professor N Rajmuhon, Vice Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University (DMU), Imphal; Professor Indira Sarangthem, Dean, COA, CAU, Imphal; T Brajakumar, Joint Director, Directorate of Environment & Climate Change; Dr Lalita Mohan Garnayak, Director of Research, CAU Imphal; and Professor Ph Ranjit Sharma, Directorate of Extension Education, CAU Imphal as presidium members.

State level conference begins


Speaking on the occasion, Prof N Rajmuhon stressed on the need for political dialogue & technical solutions to mitigate global warming and climate change or variation.

He shared that the effects of global warming & climate variation can also be seen in the State such as the change in rainfall pattern, increase in temperature and heat waves.

He also mentioned that the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was adopted in 1992 with the ultimate aim of preventing dangerous human interference with the climate system.

Appreciating the introduction of Manipur State Action Plan on Climate Change, 2013 by the Directorate of Environment & Climate Change, he stated that the Action Plan includes various activities including water resources, sustainable agricultural practices, forest resource conservation and urban planning.

Prof N Rajmuhon further stated that the compilation process of various findings have been going on for Climate Change Version 2 .
