Waste Collection Competition of SHGs More than 10, 000 kgs of plastic garbage collected

Thoubal, May 03 2023: The 3rd Plastic Waste Collection Competition of Self Help Groups under Thoubal Municipal Council was held today accompanied by a prize distribution ceremony.

The competition was organised by Thoubal Municipal Council at the Solid Waste Management Plant located at Thoubal Khunou.

Dignitaries present at the event include A Subhash Singh, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal; Th Shyamo Singh, Caretaker Chairperson, Thoubal Municipal Council; K Bono Singh, Joint Director, MAHUD and H Pradeep Kumar Singh, Executive Officer, Thoubal Municipal Council as presidium members.

Notably, Lanchenbi SHG secured the first position in the competition by collecting a total of 1204.4 kgs of plastic waste; Sanaleima SHG bagged the second position with 1150.8 kgs of plastic waste and the third position went to Khumanleima SHG with 1107.7 kgs of plastic waste collected.

Altogether 24 SHGs participated in the competition leading to the collection of a total of 10,880 kgs of plastic garbage.

Speaking in this connection, A Subhash, DC Thoubal lauded the role played by women of SHGs under Thoubal Municipal Council in maintaining cleanliness.

The TMC is ramping up their efforts to promote a clean environment by initiating a door-to-door collection of garbage, he added.

The DC further pointed out that certain households are unwilling to pay the amount of Rs 100 as fees for the door-to-door garbage collection service and these households resort to dumping their garbage in public places.

He urged people to stop this unhealthy practice.

A Subhash assured that the District Administration will take up action against those who dump their waste in public places.

Lastly, he called for collective participation of the public to ensure cleanliness of the surrounding environment.
