Imphal, March 01 2023: DM University vice-chancellor professor N Rajmuhon said that there are huge roles of youth in protecting environment and creating awareness among the public.
Prof Rajmuhon attended the inaugural function of a two-day state level Workshop cum awareness programme on 'Climate change and disaster risk management: Making sustainability a way of life' held at the auditorium of Liberal College, Luwangsangbam on Wednesday as the chief guest.
Internal Quality Assessment cell (IQAQ of Liberal College is organising the workshop in association with directorate of environment & climate change, and Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP), Imphal.
Technical experts and students from different colleges of Imphal East district are attending the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, professor Rajmuhon elaborated on the impact of climate change in the society and how it affects the lives of people as well as other living beings.
He exhorted the youth to play proactive role in protecting environment and creating awareness among the public.
Liberal College principal Dr W Ibechoubi presided over the function while Manipur State Wetland Authority's technical committee chairman Dr Kh Samungou, MB College Imphal principal Dr M Chandra, directorate of university and higher education additional director P Shantikumar and directorate of environment & climate change joint director Dr Ph Vivekananda were present as guests of honour.
In the academic session, Dr Kh Samungou spoke on 'Climate change and related issues' and emphasised on the need for protecting the endangered birds native to the state while Directorate of environment and climate change development officer Dr L Bijen spoke on 'Mission LiFE towards green economy' as resource persons.
