Awareness on climate change held, Green Resistance Manipur constituted

Thoubal, July 10 2022: Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup today organised an one day awareness programme on climate change at Huidrom Khul.

It was attended by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change Scheme Officer (Climate Change), Dr N Sanamacha Meitei, Thangminlun Haokip, secretary, MES Thadou Students Association GHQ, Pamei Tingenglung (John) convener Committee on the protection of Natural Resources in Manipur, N Sanahal Meitei, advisor Socialist Students Union of Manipur and Huidrom Rajen, president Huidrom Village Managing Committee as presidium members.

Speaking on the occasion, Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup general secretary, Momon stated that the programme was conducted in support of Ambika Laishram's initiative to save the environment.


"Lamlai Mapari Thoubal Lup recently resolved to support the efforts of young environment activist Ambika Laishram", he added.

As part of the event, a group discussion was also conducted wherein it was resolved to constitute an organisation called "Green Resistance Manipur" with Ambika Laishram as the president to preserve and protect the environment.

N Rajesh was appointed as working president of Green Resistance Manipur along with Irungbam Rabi and Thangminlun Haokip as vice presidents; and N Sanahal Meitei as general secretary.

It was also resolved to urge the Government to initiate measures to preserve wetlands & rivers, ban use of pesticides and electric current for fishing, and inform local clubs, Meira Paibi and Village Development Committees about the ban on cutting down of trees from Forest under Lamlai AC and nearby areas.
