20,000 fingerlings released in Ukhrul rivers

Ukhrul, July 11 2022: In a move to sustain the availability of aquatic population, around 20,000 fingerlings were released into four major rivers under Chingai AC in Ukhrul district on Monday.

The river ranching programme was initiated by Veterinary & Animal Hus bandry minister Khashim Vashum in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries, Manipur.

The department provided the fingerlings with the cost being borne by the Minister.

The fingerlings which included species like Common Carp, Grass Carp and Rohu were procured and brought from Imphal.

The fingerlings were hand ed over to the villagers who proceeded to their respective rivers/streams and released the aquatic species.

A total of 5000 fingerlings each were released into four hill strearns/rivers of Phungcham Rangatak Kong, Somdal Kongrei, Challou Kong and Ihang Kong.
