World Environment Day 2022 observed at various places

Bpr/Chd/Thb, June 08 2022: District Health Society, Thoubal on Wednesday observed World Environment Day 2022 at DHS Conference Hall, CMO Complex Thoubal under the theme, "Only One Earth, Let's Take Care of it" .

It was attended by Dr Y Nokul Singh, Chief Medical Officer Thoubal; Ch Basanta Singh, DPM Thoubal and Dr M Rakhesh Meetei, Assistant Nodal Officer, CMHA as presidium members.

The programme began with a welcome address by Md Riyas Sheikh, District Community Mobilizer.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Y Nokul Singh stressed on the importance of planting trees and rejuvenation of catchment areas.

He also appealed to the participating Community Health Officers to plant trees including fruit bearing trees in the surrounding areas of their Health Wellness Centres.

Dr M Rakhesh Meetei highlighted the effects of global warming and climate change on human health.

He also mentioned that cases of women undergoing IVF due to infertility are on the rise while adding that cases of non-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, stroke and cancer cases are also increasing in the state.

"These health issues can be easily prevented by changing our lifestyle", he added.

Later, Dr Y Nokul Singh launched the fruit bearing tree plantation at CMO Complex Thoubal.

Community Health Officers and staff of CMO Complex Thoubal also took part in the programme.

Moreover, in line with the observance of World Environment Day, KeIthelmanbi Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(S) on June 8 organised a tree plantation drive in Bishnupur district.

Troops of Assam Rifles distributed and planted around 200 saplings of multiple varieties at Heinoubok and Leimaram villages, said a statement of IGAR(S) .

Modi Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(S) in association with Chandel District Police and Civil administration also conducted a tree plantation drive on June 7 at Sports Complex Chandel Christian & Theological college in Modi, Chandel district.

It was participated by about 100 persons including the Forest Department and civil wing of Royal Riders Chandel.

Similarly, Keithelmanbi Battalion also organised a Cycle Rally from Nambol to Loktak Lake, Bishnupur district on June 5 to spread the message of "Only one Earth, only one Loktak".

The rally conducted in collaboration with Loktak Development Authority was participated by about 150 local youth cyclists.
