Imphal, May 22 2022: Human Resource and Social Development Organisation, Luwangshangbam ,Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, 4th IRB, Thengu Chingjin and Heingang Awang Leikai Development Committee jointly observed World Biodiversity Day at Ibudhou Marjing Complex under the theme "Building a Shared Future for all Life" .
The programme was attended by Heingang Gram Panchayat Pradhan Konjengbam Jayanta, Chief Minister's Personal Secretary Salam Rajen Singh, Joint Directors of the Directorate of Environment, Dr T Brajakumar and Th Vivekananda and 4th IRB Subedar, Mangsatabam Demartan as the presidium members among others.
Speaking as the resource person, Dr T Brajakumar said that World Biodiversity Day is observed every year to stressed on the importance of protecting bio-diversity and to remind that human beings cannot stay along without depending on other living beings..jpg)
World Biodiversity Day 2022 observed
Highlighting the importance of maintaining the ecological balance, he appealed to all safeguard the trees and other plants.
He also elaborated on the various adverse impacts of exploitation of natural environment such as rampant deforestation etc making it difficult for human beings and other living creatures to survive in this planet.
While addressing the gathering, Salam Rajen Singh asserted that it is high time that one starts acknowledging the importance of conserving the natural resources to make the world a healthy place to live.
He also appealed to stop excavating the top soil and plant as many trees as possible.
As a part of the programme, around 400 saplings were planted in and around Heingang Hill areas.
World Biodiversity Day 2022 was also celebrated at Langol Reserved Forest Area at Lamdeng in Imphal West District today.
The programme was organised by Association of Retired Forest Service Officers of Manipur (ARFSOM) in association with Divisional Forest Officer, Central Forest Division.
As a part of the programme, many saplings were also planted.

Amarajit and other forest officers attended the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Secretary of ARFSOM, Bondbir Duwaja said that the programme has been organised with the sole objective to safeguard the biodiversity of the State as it plays an important role in the lives of the people of the State.
Stating that more than 120 saplings have been planted today, he said that the association will work to ensure that all the saplings are nurtured properly and will strive to make the area a biodiversity park.
