CCPur, May 25 2022: ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Churachandpur, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region organized a training programme on 'Water Conservation and Rain Water Harvesting' under Jal Shakti Abhiyan on May 25 .
As per a statement, the programme was conducted under the patronage of Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR RC for NEH Region, Manipur Centre.
The inaugural function was graced by MK Elizabeth, District Agriculture Officer, Churachandpur district, Dr Kh Rishikanta Singh, Senior Scientist, ICAR Manipur Centre, Imphal, Dr K Rabi, Senior Scientist and Head i/c KVK Tamenglong, Tupul and L Somendro Singh, Head i/c, ICAR-KVK Churachandpur as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
During the inaugural session, L Somendro Singh highlighted the theme of Jal Shakti Abhiyan "Catch the rain, Where it Falls When it Falls" covering both rural as well as urban areas of all districts in the country, during the pre-monsoon and monsoon period.
He further stressed on creation/maintenance of water conservation, rainwater harvesting structures, renovation of traditional and other water bodies/ tanks, reuse and recharge of bore wells, watershed development, and intensive afforestation.
MK Elizabeth also drew the attention of farmers urging them to harvest rain water into any structure like pond, jalkund etc.
Kh Rishikanta Singh mentioned the importance of water in germination of seeds, growth of plant roots, and nutrition and multiplication of soil organisms.
Dr K Rabi highlighted Jal Shakti Abhiyan's mission to create awareness.
The programme was followed by a technical session during which Dr K Sonamani Singh and L Somendro Singh delivered lectures.
