World Earth Day observed across state

Chd/Ccp/Jbm/Kak/Tml/Tpl, April 22 2022: Various events were organised in the State on Friday to mark World Earth Day and draw attention to the need to invest in the planet and solve the climate crisis.

The theme for World Earth Day 2022 is 'Invest in our planet' .

CHANDEL
In line with the celebration on World Earth Day 2022, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Chandel organised an essay & painting competition at Trinity Students Hostel, Moreh, Tengnoupal district. It was attended by students of Classes 4-10 of Trinity Student Hostel, said a release issued by DLSA Chandel.

The programme began with a warm welcome speech by Moite Gangte, PLV Moreh.

Sarungbam Mangaleibi, Judicial Magistrate First Class/Civil Judge Junior Division, Moreh and Sagar Gazmair, Hostel master, Trinity Student Hostel Ward No 8, Moreh also spoke on the occasion.

CHURACHANDPUR
Churachandpur Battalion under the aegis of IGAR(South) organised a medical camp and legal awareness programme in collaboration with DLSA at Chongkhozou, Churachandpur District.

The event was organised on the occasion of World Earth Day to provide legal guidance and awareness to the local populace, said a statement of IGAR(S) .

The awareness programme was followed by a medical camp wherein the medical team of Assam Rifles carried out health check-ups of 150 locals.

JIRIBAM
As part of the observance of World Earth Day, Friendly Environmental Warriors' (FEW), Jiribam and Jiribam Forest Division, Jiribam also organised a tree plantation drive at Panjel Playground in Sorok Atingbi Khunou and BOC, Babupara under the theme, "Invest in our planet" .

Jiribam DC, W Malemnganba Chenglei, IAS; DFO Rajesh Darade, IFS; SDPO Chamna Anal, MPS; JDO president, N Sadananda Meetei; MSF District Committee president, A Ratan Singh; Romeo Moirangthem, life time president of FEW; Somorendro Singh, pradhan of Hilghat GP; leaders of Panjel Club and members of FEW took part in the programme.

KAKCHING
Kakching High School 1984 Matric Batch also observed World Earth Day by planting tree saplings at 'Cheng-Kei Pung' road in Kakching Wairi.

At the event, president of Kakching High School 1984 Matric Batch, N Munal Meitei stated that the group has been carrying out "one activity, one month" for the betterment of the society and appealed to the public to plant more trees to save the planet.

Similarly, a tree plantation programme was also conducted at Angaan Ching Eco Park, Kakching to mark World Earth Day.

TAMENGLONG
To mark World Earth Day and as part of Van Mitra Abhiyan, 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ 22 Sector AR/ IGAR (East) organized a drive to revisit last year's saplings planted by the battalion.

Last year through various initiatives under Van Mahotsav, the battalion had planted 82,000 saplings in various parts of Tamenglong and Kangpokpi district, said a statement of PIB Defence Wing.

The event witnessed jawans of the unit planting fresh saplings to replace the dead ones.

At the event, Commandant of Tamenglong Battalion stressed on ownership of the saplings planted by each individual and stated that this initiative will go a long way in creating a healthy green zone for locals.

TENGNOUPAL
On World Earth Day, children and youth of Chandel and Tengnoupal districts joined Centre for Women and Girls, Lhunnajang in launching a 45-days long campaign called "Voice for Green Earth" by planting over 50 saplings at 4 different locations.

The campaign, which will end on June 5, the World Environment Day, will consist of activities like rallies, painting competitions, poster-making, and cleanliness drives.
