Imphal, April 19 2022: An awareness cum training programme on 'Promotion of Organic Farming in Manipur' was held at the hall of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Lamphelpat organised by ICAR - Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Imphal West.
The programme was held as a part of the week-long campaign under 'Annadata Devo Bhava' as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, said a press note by ICAR, KVK, Imphal West.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Th Motilal Singh, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Imphal West elaborated on organic farming in the context of India and Manipur.
During the inaugural session of today's awareness cum training programme, Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Manipur Centre deliberated the importance of organic farming on two concepts namely organic farming for individual household consumption and the commercial aspect of organic farming with certification process.
He further stressed on the need of organic farming in the present context and requested all stakeholders to join the campaign so as to align with the nationwide initiative of promoting the natural and organic farming in Manipur.
He also concluded that 'Black Rice' (Chakhao) can be a potential crop for organic farming in Imphal West district.
A total of 80 individuals from different villages of Imphal West district participated in today's programme which concluded with a farmer scientist interaction programme, added the press note.
