Imphal, April 04 2022: Two day workshop on 'Role of media in organic farming' concluded today at Lamdan in Churachandpur district.
The workshop was jointly organised by Khelen Thokchom Trust (KKT) and Manipur Organic Mission Manipur (MOMA) .
As a part of the workshop, a team of KKT and media persons went for a field visit at pineapple farms located at Khousabung and Bunglon village in Churachandpur district today and interacted with the volunteers of Clover Organic Private Limited which has been playing a key role as a service provider to promote organic farming in the said villages.
Speaking to the team members, technical officer of Clover Organic Private Limited, Hatneikim Haokip informed that around 150 farmers of Bunglon and Khousabung villages have been growing Q-variety pineapples in around 150 hectares of land through organic farming.
Informing that the two villages were able to export around 10 metric tonnes of pineapples last year, Hatneikim said that now the farmers of the villages have started growing other varieties of vegetables and fruits.
With an aim to promote organic farming, Clover Organic Private Limited in association with MOMA have been organising training programmes in the villages and have been providing best possible technical support as well, Hatneikim added.
Regarding marketing, the technical officer said that they have been helping the farmers for the marketing and transportation of their products.
Briefing about the measures taken up by the authorities concerned to provide certification to the products of the farmers produced through organic farming, Hatneikim expressed firm belief that once it becomes successful, the farmers will be able to generate huge a source of income by exporting their products to big markets and thereby considerably contributing to enhance State's economy.
