Imphal, March 27 2022: Society for Environmental Education and Development, Manipur (SEED) and Manipur Shakti organized a WORKSHOP on World Water Day on March 22 .
The day is celebrated as a means of focusingthe attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.
Every year, the World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.
World Water Day 2022 was celebrated under the theme "Groundwater: Making the invisible visible The key speeches delivered were 'Remote Sensing for Surface Water and Wetlands' by Prof JK Garg, from Indraprastha University; 'Heavy metal and metalloid contamination of groundwater: Implications in food safety and environmental health' by Prof Abhik Gupta, Assam University; 'Water sensitive urban design solution for wetland catchment : ensuring sustainable water availability' by Dr Pradeep Shrivastava, Member Academic, MP Private University Regulatory Commission, Bhopal; 'Assessment of Groundwater Quality Of Manipur Valley and Spatial Vulnerability Mapping Using Geospatial Techniques' by Dr Wazir Alam,Manipur University; 'Springshed Management for domestic water and Assured Irrigation in Manipur' by Dr Rajkumari Sunita Devi, Additional CEO, SLNA Watershed, Planning Department,Manipur and 'Every Drop Counts' by Workshop Director Prof Asha Gupta,Convenor SEED and Manipur Shakti who also moderated the session .
The organizing team members who took part in discussion were Dr L Sanjoy Meitei, Dr Sorokhaibam Ibechaobi Devi, Dr Beeteswari Khagembam, Dr Daisy Angom and Dr.Lamabam Usharani .A number of scientists,college teachers ,research scholars and students from different parts of India participated in the event on World water Day.
The interaction was useful,participants from Bihar ,Orissa, West Bengal and North East attended the workshop.
Some of the dignitaries present were Dr Saha from Central Pollution Control Board, Prof MG Tiwari , Ex-president, Environmental Science ,Indian Science Congress,Kolkata, Dr Sophia Moirangthem, Dr N Ranita and Santosh Nahakpam worked for the successful organisation of the online event.
