Imphal, April 03 2022: All Manipur Anti-Drugs Association (AMADA) former secretary N Bobo has opined that mass cultivation of plants (lemon grasses) used in making Cymbopogon citratus tea (CC tea) would not only help tackle the menace of poppy cultivation but also enhance economy of the state.
Speaking at the pre-launch programme of CCT organised by Kurumlen Sintha Yaibikol Private Limited at ICM hall, Lamphel on Sunday, Bobo noted that there is increasing demand for CC tea all over the world as it is beneficial to human health.
However, it could not be exported in abundance as production and raw material supply of the plant is still inadequate.
If government could frame policy for cultivating Cymbopogon citratus, then it could effectively check the illegal cultivation of poppy plantation, he suggested, while adding that employment could be generated and consequently help improve the state's economy.
The pre-launch programme was attended by ICM director K Joykumar, social activist and film actor Rk Kaiku and Yaibikol Private Limited CEO K Premchand as presidium members.
