Kakching, March 02 2022: Extensive drives to prevent poaching of birds were carried out at wetlands located in Kakching district including Loushipat, Kharungpat, Khoidumpat, Lamjao Maningpat, Pumlenpat and Moirangkompat on Wednesday by teams of Kakching Range forest staff and Thoubal wildlife wardens prior to the World Wildlife Day observance on Thursday.
Speaking in relation to the drive, assistant conservator of forests Naorem Munal Meitei pointed out that several migratory species of birds which flock to these wetlands for feeding have started arriving: Some of the species that prolong their generally lay eggs as such the drive was initiated to protect them from poachers.
During the drive, the team rescued a bird found trapped in a net at Lamjao Maningpat.
Furthermore, the assistant forest conservator appealed to the public to cause no harm to these migratory birds and let them return home safely.
