Imphal, February 11 2022: The trial project of planting of mustard to extract oil in 578 hectares of paddy fields in Andro Poiroupat in Imphal East district by the All India Coordinated Research Project on Rapeseed has become successful.
The mustard plants have been planted by the Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal under the sponsorship of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Directorate of Rapeseed Mustard Research located at Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
A team of scientists of CAU, Imphal led by Professor L Nabachandra went to the plantation site and inspected the place.
Speaking to media persons in connection with the visit, Scientist of CAU, Imphal, Dr Pushparani Senjam said that four varieties of oil rich mustard have been planted as a trial project.
Though planted as a trial, there is a high possibility that the production will surpass the expectation, she added.
She further stated that the people of the State uses mustard oil on a daily basis but the major portion has been imported from other states therefore with an aim to make the State self reliant in terms of mustard oil production, the trial project has been taken up.
