Imphal, January 05 2022: Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal has informed beekeepers/farmers of the state that they can have their raw honey processed at its Honey Processing Unit at minimal cost.
In a release, the university said that after the inception of a long-term project integrated Bee Keeping Development Centre (IBDC)' funded by National Bee Board (NBB) at the Campus of College of Agriculture, Iroisemba in 2017, the centre established Honey Processing Unit (one 250 kg capacity and another 500 kg capacity) for the benefit of bee farmers in northeast region in general and Manipur in particular.
"Therefore, it is informed to all the beekeepers/farmers/organisations of state to avail the benefit of this Unit by processing raw honey in order to get good quality having all the constituents in proper manner and long storability.
The charge of raw honey processing in Unit is only Rs 50 per kg.
The raw honey should be of a minimum of 30 kg and maximum of up to 500 kg for one time processing," it said.
It added that the .processed honey of farmers' raw honey can be reclaimed and sold at high price for more income generation or can be sold to the centre at Rs 600 per kg.
