Imphal, December 31 2021: Manipur State Medicinal Plant Board organised a meeting cum seminar programme on 'Potential and Perspective of Medicinal Plants in Manipur' at the conference hall of ICAR, Lamphelpat on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur State Medicinal Plant Board CEO and AYUSH director Dr A Guneshwar Sharma emphasised the need for proper usage, conservation and commercialisation of the different medicinal plants found aplenty in the state.
He then said that the Board is trying to start a wave for conservation of medicinal and aromatic plants, for which several training programmes, meetings and technical sessions have been conducted.
Nonetheless, there are still some shortcomings.
As such, the seminar was organised as a form of review meeting with experts to address the shortcomings in this sector, he added.
The director then informed that the Board had submitted a project proposal of Rs 150 crore under the Atmanirbhar scheme for setting up a processing unit in the state along with providing financial assistance to farmers, setting up of nurseries in each district and establishing herbal garden in 100 schools under the School Fagathansi Mission.
The inaugural function of the seminar was attended by ICAR Lamphelpat joint director Dr I Meghachandra, NEIST Lamphelpat principal scientist Dr H Birkumar, Medicinal Plant ex-chairman Th Mahendra Pratap and others.
