Imphal, December 14 2021: All Manipur Quarry Association (AMQA) has appealed for removal of ban on mining imposed by the High Court of Manipur in the entire state.
In a release, AMQA president M Mangoljao Singh pointed out that the state government in the last three years provided seven quarry permits including M Mangoljao quarries at Kanglatongbi, Leikinthabi, Sekmai, Awang Potsangbam; Sinam Leena Devi quarry at Aimol Khullen; M Kanta quarry at Serou and Haobam Ibungo quarry at Serou.
Due to the High Court of Manipur's order the quarries have remained non functional.
In the meantime, the seven quarries received environmental clearance from the Directorate of Environment, Government of India, NOC from Forest Department as well as NOC from Water Resources Department.
Deputy commissioners concerned had also inspected the quarry sites and Industry Department issue'd royalty challan/TP after signing of lease deed between industry director and project proponent, it mentioned.
AMQA continued that many big projects are being executed in full swing in the state by various companies under NHIDCL, NF Railways and state government.
Since there are no legal quarries in Manipur it is matter of grave concern that how this construction projects are being executed by the companies.
Therefore, they requested the HC and state government to look into the matter at the earliest and bring an amicable solution while cautioning that the Association along with people working in the quarries will disturb the on-going national and state projects and will ban entry of minor minerals brought in from other states.
