River festival, 'Nadi Utsav' held at Jiribam

Jiribam, December 19 2021: 'Nadi Utsav', A River Festival-2021 was held today at the auditorium of Jiribam Higher Secondary School.

Spot drawing competition on the theme 'Save River, Save Life' was held in the first session of the festival for three different categories, class I-IV, class V-VII and Class VIII to graduation and was participated by 93 students.

Endrea Moirangthem, project assistant Wildlife Institute of India gave the keynote address to the second session followed by Project Scientist Dr Chongpi Tuboi's presentation on 'River and Wetland Conservation' .

Invitees including Dr Th Somorendro Singh, HOD, Jiri College (Geography) and Romeo Moirangthem, advisor FEW also spoke on different topics related to the festival.

Kshetrimayum Dayabanta, vice president FEW, said saving the environment is a collective responsibility of everyone and cannot be left alone with the Government.


B Sarat Sharma appealed the people along the river banks not to build toilet near the river and not washed clothes in the river as it adds harmful chemicals to the water.

Pukhrambam Sanajaoba Khuma (Highway English School), Mutum Tanisha Chanu (Cambridge English School) and Tanip Hidam (Blooming Flower Children's Foundation School) won the first, second and third prizes in the spot competition for Class I-IV category.

Thingbaijam Surmala Devi (Blooming Flower Children's Foundation School), Kh Nayasa (RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya) and U Lamnganbi Chanu (Cambridge English School) won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes in Class V-VII category.

Ayekpam Premananda Singh (RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya), Oinam Tomthin Meetei (Jiri College) and Nasa Khuraijam (RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya) were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders in Class VIII to Graduate category.

The festival was jointly organised as a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav under the Ministry of Culture and Ministry of Jal Shakti by Forest Department, Friendly Environmental Warriors (FEW), All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), Wildlife Institute of India, Namami Gangge, Nadi Utsav and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.
