Orientation programme on 'Bird watching' held

Bishnupur, December 22 2021: As part of the ongoing Nadi Utsav, Wildlife Institute of India and Manipur Forest Department under the aegis of Ministry of Culture on Wednesday organised an one day orientation programme on "Bird watching" at Loktak lake.

The event held in collaboration with Kumbi College and Moirang College was attended by Kumam Jugeshor, Principal of Kumbi college; Elangbam Premjit, secretary of Wildlife Explorers Manipur and Dr Chongpi Tuboi, Project scientist of Wildlife Institute of India as resource persons.

At the programme, the resource persons enlightened the participants on birding and its importance, basics of bird identification techniques and ways to conserve birds for sustained biodiversity.

Faculties of the Zoology Department of Kumbi and Moirang College, N Sony and O Sana also attended the event.


The programme was conducted through a classroom training followed by a field visit for hands-on training to the Phubala area of Loktak lake.

Around 35 college students took part in the programme.

Moreover, slogan and drawing competitions on the theme, "River conservation" was also conducted with school children at Keibul Lamjao National Park.
