Imphal, December 23 2021: The National Farmers Day was also observed at Irabot Bhawan today organised by the Farmers' Joint Action Committee, Manipur.
Addressing the gathering, H Ibobi Singh, convenor of the Committee urged the Government to formulate a special policy and to procure paddy from the farmers of the State by providing Minimum Support Price to alleviate the problems faced by the farmers while finding markets to sell their produce, said a press release issued by Farmers' Joint Action Committee, Manipur.
He also appealed to the authorities concerned of the Forest Department to plant more trees to tackle the issue of global warming.
Expressing concern over not providing the due compensation to farmers affected by Loktak lake, he termed it as an act of violation of the rights of the said farmers.
He also appealed to the Government to take up special measures in the interest of the farmers.
The release further stated that on today's occasion, many speakers also stressed on the farmers welfare and appealed to the Government to ensure that fertilizers and seeds of crops are distributed to the farmers at the right time.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research-North Eastern Hill Region (ICAR-NEH) Manipur Centre and KVK-Imphal West also observed 'Kisan Diwas' (National Farmers Day) today.
Dr Th Motilal Singh, Head KVK-Imphal West highlighted the contribution of the fifth Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh whose birth anniversary is celebrated as Kisan Diwas, said a press release by ICAR-NEH, Manipur Centre.
Dr SS Roy and Dr Susheel Kumar Sharma while addressing the audience highlighted the landmark achievements of ICAR-NEH Manipur Centre in developing new technologies of mushroom cultivation and its popularization in Manipur, added the press release.
