Chinese Pangolin rescued from hunters

Imphal, November 26 2021: Sub-contractor Keisham Ne-trajit of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai rescued a baby Chinese Pangolin locally known as Safu from hunters by paying money and handed over the highly endangered species to People for Animal (PEA) and forest department officials.

As per information provided by PFA managing trustee L Biswajit, Netrajit saw a baby pangolin brought by some hunters at Kwatha village in Tengnoupal district and purchased the same by paying Rs 1,500 .

Netrajit brought the endangered species to his home at Khundrakpam but it went traceless on Thursday evening.

However, a local man found the missing species and uploaded video of the pangolin on social media.

Accordingly, a team of PFA and forest department officials went to rescue the endangered species.

The 20 inches long baby pangolin is being kept at the shelter ofPFA as it is very young to be released in the wild, Biswajit informed adding consultations are going on with veterinary experts/scientists on how to raise the rescued mammal.
