CM inaugurates 'Cherry Blossom Mao Festival'

Imphal, November 30 2021: Chief minister N Biren Singh on Tuesday inaugurated 'Virtual Cherry Blossom Mao Festival 2021' in the presence of ambassador of Japan to India Satoshi Suzuki, Tourism minister O Lukhoi, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Limited chairman Md Asabuddin and Indian Council for Cultural Relations director general Dinesh K Patnaik.

Speaking as chief guest of the function, Biren noted that there are many similarities between Manipur and Japan in terms of culture, tradition, etc., and this could be explored through such festivals.

Manipur needs the Japanese expertise and advice in bringing infrastructural development in the state, he added.

The CM mentioned that more cultural exchange programmes between Manipur and Japan is needed to promote cultural tourism.

He also said organising webinars like 'Study in Japan' during the festival will help in human resource development and helpful in guiding Manipuri youth pursue higher education in Japan.

He expressed his gratitude to Embassy of Japan, department of Tourism, ICCR Regional Office Shillong, Organising Committee Flower Festival Mao for celebrating the Cherry Blossom Mao Festival Manipur, 2021.During his speech, tourism minister 0 Lukhoi Singh said the festival is an opportunity to showcase the potential of Mao as.a unique tourist destination of the state and also to showcase the rich cultural and natural heritage.

He mentioned that the festival also provides an opportunity to experience {he rich cultural heritage, folk dances, music and natural beauty of Mao.
