Imphal, November 20 2021: As a part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav campaign, citizen participation and community engagement was organised towards creating awareness on food fortification.
In this regard, public awareness activities on rice fortification was conducted at Panchayat Bhawan, DC Office, Imphal East and Raising Youth Organization, Bhakta Ashram Ground, Thumbuthong Bokul Makhong, Imphal West today, said a press release issued by the Designated Officer (Food Safety Administration), Imphal West.
The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur supported by PATH led the celebration of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' and promotion of rice fortification in Imphal East District.
The event was graced by Ngangom Uttam Singh, Director (Social Welfare), Lenin Polem, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East and Thongsuanmung Vualnam, Public Health Coordinator, PATH as the presidium members.
Similarly, Department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, Government of Manipur led the celebration in Imphal West district where Th Kirankumar, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal West, Dr Sonia Oinam, Deputy Secretary (Social Welfare and Health & FW) attended as the presidium members.
Tekcham Brojendro Khaba Meitei, Designated Officer (Food Safety Administration) sensitized the gathering on the food safety and food fortification benefits.
A community feeding program for around 250 participants in the two locations was also organized to make people aware of the benefits of fortified rice, added the press release.
