Imphal, November 13 2021: Joint Director of Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) K Devdutta Sharma flagged off a consignment of one metric tonne (MT) of Chak-Hao (black rice) Poireiton to Europe from Sanjenthong today.
At the flagging off ceremony, K Devdutta stated that the department has been exporting black rice since the past few months to promote local growers under Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North East Region (MOVCD-NER).
He said that Chief minister N Biren had also flagged off one MT of organic Chak-Hao to Europe a few months back under the initiative of North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd and the Ministry of DoNER.
Saying that Chak-Hao Poireiton received GI tag recently due to the sincere effort of farmers and local entrepreneurs, the Joint Director continued that Chak-Hao plantation has the potential to improve the economy of Manipur.
K Devdutta stated that MOMA would continue to extend financial assistance and logistic support to improve the living standard of the State's farmers.
Officer in-charge of North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd M Imo said that the company had exported 2 MT of Chak-Hao to Europe on November 4 too.
Saying that the companies in Europe have directed them to send a consignment of black rice every month, M Imo added that demand for Chak-Hao in the National market is also growing.
He then urged the growers to work hard to meet the demand for black rice.
