National seminar on atomic energy awareness held

Imphal, November 13 2021: Department Of Physics, Oriental College (Autonomous) and Study Forum for Advanced Technology (SFAT) North-East India jointly organised a National seminar today on the topic of'Radiation Safety and Regulatory Aspects in Peaceful Use of Atomic Energy' at Oriental College, Takyel under the supervision of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).

The event was graced by Dr S Ranjit Singh, principal Oriental College; Ksh Satyabala Devi, HOD, Department of Physics; Dr A Nabachandra, controller of examinations and principal of DM College of Commerce; L Mani Singh, coordinator IQAC and Dean of Science Oriental College; H Ibomcha Singh, controller of examinations, Oriental College and Dr Th Dewan Singh, scientific officer, AERB, Mumbai and regional chairman SFAT, India who attended as presidium members.

Dr Th Dewan Singh addressed the gathering and stated that the seminar was conducted to educate the public about the usage and applications of atomic energy in our society as well its benefits and the precautionary measures and regulations that must be followed in order to ensure safe utilization of this resource.

He further informed the people that the use of x-ray, CT scan, radio therapy etc in hospitals require permission from AERB and the use of atomic energy without the Board's permission can warrant serious punishment under Atomic Energy Act 1962 and Radiation Protection Rule 2004.It might be noted that this seminar was also organised as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebration.
